Agent developers who know when not to use an agent.
Engineers who design multi-step AI workflows that finish the job reliably, with the right tools, permissions and human checkpoints.
What a strong hire does.
AI agents plan, call tools and act across systems. Done well, they take real work off people's plates. Done badly, they loop, guess or take actions nobody approved. The developer you hire decides which one you get.
- Tool and API integrations with clear permissions
- Multi-step workflows with planning, memory and retries
- Human-in-the-loop approval for consequential actions
- Evaluation of task success, not just response quality
- Monitoring, cost controls and failure handling
- Choosing between an agent, a simple workflow or plain code
Signs you need one now.
You want to automate a multi-step process that spans several systems
Your agent prototype works in demos but fails in production
You need clear limits on what AI can do on its own
Interviewed by someone who has done the job.
- Python or TypeScript and modern agent frameworks
- Tool interfaces and permission boundaries
- Task-level evaluation and test harnesses
- Reliability: timeouts, retries and rollback
- Security: prompt injection and data exposure
- Explaining trade-offs to non-technical owners
Every candidate is also rated Strong, Solid or Developing on our six dimensions. Only those rated Strong on all six reach you. See the full process →
- "Which steps did you keep deterministic, and why?"
- "How did you stop the agent from taking an action it shouldn't?"
- "How did you measure whether tasks actually got done?"
The right model for this role.
Contract or contract-to-hire
Agent projects often start as a defined build. Contract-to-hire keeps the option to bring the developer in-house once it works.
30-day replacement
If a placement doesn't work out in the first 30 days, we replace them at no extra fee.
Free scoping call
30 minutes, then a written role brief within 48 hours. No fee until a candidate starts.
Questions we hear most.
Do we need an agent, or would simpler automation do?
Often simpler is better. Our scoping call covers that question first, and the best agent developers will tell you the same. If a rules-based workflow or an RPA bot fits, we'll recommend an automation developer instead.
How do you check an agent developer's safety judgment?
Responsible AI is one of the six dimensions on our scorecard. In the technical interview we dig into how the candidate limited permissions, handled prompt injection and kept a human in the loop.
Can they work with our existing systems?
Yes. Tool integration is the core of the job. The role brief lists the systems and APIs involved, and we look for candidates who have integrated similar ones.
